- Who We Are
Kyzylorda-based Orda Glass Ltd has launched the melting furnace of the long-delayed glass plant. The plant is expected to be put into operation shortly after.
The glass plant was included in the Republican Industrialization Map for 2015-2019. The project is being implemented on behalf of Nursultan Nazarbayev and is under the control of President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev and the Government of Kazakhstan. The launch of the glass plant marks the start of a new industry in the economy of Kazakhstan. It will also have a huge impact on the socio-economic development of the region creating 226 new jobs; 300 more people were involved in the construction of the plant.
The glass plant, located in the Industrial Zone of Kyzylorda, is capable to produce 197,100 tons of glass per year. The cost of this unique project is 43.7 billion tenge, of which 33.6 billion were borrowed from the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, a subsidiary of Baiterek Holding.
The launching ceremony was attended by Maulen Ashimbaev, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament, Gulshara Abdykalikova, Akim of the Kyzylorda Region, Aidar Arifkhanov, Chairman of the Board of Baiterek Holding and Chinese investors.
– Baiterek Holding, the Government, and the Akimat of the Kyzylorda Region have done a great job reviving this project, which for a long time was a stressed asset of our former subsidiary – the Investment Fund of Kazakhstan. China’s King Charm Development Limited, a world leader in glass production, has invested in this project. Today we are attending the melting furnace launching ceremony, a final stage before the opening of the plant, – said Aidar Arifkhanov.
Currently, the construction is being completed by the King Charm Development Limited. In August 2017, a contract was signed between Orda Glass Ltd and China Triumph International Engineering Group Co., Ltd (CTIEC) to complete the construction of the facility by August 1, 2018. The previous contractor, Shymkentkhimmontazh LLP, was dismissed due to improper performance of obligations and poor quality of construction.
The opening of the plant was postponed annually for a number of reasons: some participants left the project, the works had to be stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic, the contractor missed deadlines, defects were found during the construction, etc. Despite the restrictive measures imposed due to the pandemic, the State Commission allowed highly qualified specialists from China to come to Kazakhstan and complete the construction.
The plant will be launched in March 2022 and the first batch of glass is expected to be produced in April 2022.
Upon reaching full capacity, the plant will be able to satisfy the demand in the domestic market. It will also export glass to the markets of the EAEU and Central Asia. Currently, 13 billion tenge worth of glass is imported from Russia, China, and Kyrgyzstan annually. Expensive imported glass leads to higher construction costs.
The demand for glass is constantly growing. Domestically produced glass will significantly reduce the cost of residential and commercial real estate, cars, furniture, and interior items. In addition, it will contribute to the construction of social infrastructure facilities (public transport and sports centers).
