On 18-22 of April, Kanat Sharlapayev, Chairman of the Board of Baiterek Holding, took part in the annual spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in the USA.
During his visit, Kanat Sharlapayev met representatives of the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). The Corporation partners with the private sector to finance solutions to the most pressing problems in the developing world. The meeting was also attended by Gaukhar Buribayeva, Chairman of the Board of Damu Entrepreneurship Development Fund.
Kanat Sharlapayev has told his colleagues about the Holding’s achievements in financing industrial and infrastructure projects, increasing export, and supporting innovative companies and small and medium-sized businesses.
The meeting participants have also discussed the cooperation in project financing, joint financing of projects through direct investment funds, etc.
A meeting with Ilias Skamnelos
In addition, the Head of the Holding discussed possible cooperation with Ilias Skamnelos, Practice Manager of the Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation Global Practice in Europe and Central Asia at the World Bank. He expressed particular interest in the Holding’s support of SMEs and the implementation of green projects in Kazakhstan. The parties agreed to meet in Kazakhstan for a more detailed discussion of future cooperation.
A meeting with Irina Klytchnikova
The availability and effectiveness of financial support for the agro-industrial complex became the main topic during a meeting with Irina Klytchnikova, Lead Economist for Agriculture and Food in Europe and Central Asia at the World Bank. Kanat Sharlapayev spoke in detail about the measures the Holding is taking to support agriculture in Kazakhstan.
A meeting with Stephanie von Friedeburg, Senior Vice President at the IFC
Also, the Head of the Holding discussed business cooperation with representatives of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) – Vice President Stephanie von Friedeburg and Regional Vice President Hela Cheikhrouhou. Top managers of the IFC, which is part of the World Bank, showed interest in cooperation with the Holding to help develop and support private businesses in the real sectors of the economy. The IFC and Baiterek Holding have similar tasks: both companies promote the economic development of private entrepreneurs by stimulating the growth of the real sector of the economy in emerging markets.
It should be noted that Kazakhstan’s delegation has also met top managers of other major companies such as Pfizer and the Big Three credit rating agencies – Moody's, Standard & Poor's, and Fitch Group.
