President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has placed a symbolic capsule in the foundation of a new international airport terminal in Almaty. Kanat Sharlapayev, Chairman of the Board of Baiterek Holding, participated in the ceremony.
Fifteen percent of the construction cost was funded by Kazyna Capital Management JSC, a subsidiary of Baiterek Holding. The owners of the airport have received a long-term loan of $450 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Finance Corporation, DEG (Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft), and the Eurasian Development Bank.
The new international terminal will have five boarding stairs, 40 check-in counters, two E-Gates counters, 1,800 square meters of retail space, 2,200 square meters of dining area, a VIP lounge, equipment for baggage screening, and walk-through metal detectors.
– The construction of a new terminal is an important step in developing the city. The new terminal will help increase passenger traffic, launch new international routes, increase the region’s tourism potential, and also create new jobs, – said Kanat Sharlapayev.
