- Who We Are
On September 19, Rustam Karagoishin, Chairman of the Management Board of Baiterek Holding, held a meeting with a delegation from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
The AIIB delegation included Vice President Konstantin Limitovsky, Senior Advisor Hong Wei, Client Relations Associate Jia Cao, Investment Specialist Serik Nurzhan, and Regional Coordinator Alexey Shevchenko. Joining the discussions from Baiterek Holding were Deputy Chairmen Timur Onzhanov and Zhandos Shaikhy; Marat Yelibayev, Chairman of the Management Board of Development Bank of Kazakhstan; Almas Agibayev, Director of the Projects Department, and Aizhan Kosman, Director of the International Cooperation Department.
The meeting focused on exploring cooperation opportunities between Baiterek Holding and the AIIB for financing infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan. The parties discussed initiatives outlined in the National Infrastructure Plan, approved by the Government of Kazakhstan, which is set for 2024-2029. This plan aims to establish a sustainable infrastructure base in key areas such as energy, transport, digital technologies, water supply, and sanitation.
The AIIB expressed particular interest in green projects that necessitate independent environmental assessments. Development Bank of Kazakhstan has already submitted several such projects for the AIIB's consideration, with the signing of the Mandate Letter anticipated in October 2024, followed by an expert review.
"Cooperation with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank opens up new opportunities for implementing key infrastructure projects, especially in sustainable development. We place special emphasis on green projects that demand high environmental standards and align with our priorities. I am confident that this dialogue will lay the groundwork for a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership," said Rustam Karagoishin.
It is worth noting that the collaboration between Baiterek Holding and the AIIB began in 2023 during the Astana Finance Days conference, where discussions centered on the green agenda and financing sustainable infrastructure projects. Since then, the parties have maintained an active dialogue, creating new opportunities for developing joint projects in sustainable and green economy.
